THEATRICAL TRUMPET CALLS / Artists in Power: As Seen from Krakow
|6 December 2020
Participants: Małgorzata Bogajewska (chief executive of Ludowy Theatre), Krzysztof Głuchowski (chief executive of J. Słowacki Theatre), Waldemar Raźniak (chief executive of National Old Theatre), Bartosz Szydłowski (chief executive of Łaźnia Nowa Theater)

The chiefs of the leading Krakow stages talk about the needs of local theatres and take a broader
perspective on the question of theatre management. Are we at the outset of a revolution in it? What has influence over it: arts councils, trade unions, invasion of collectives?
The model in which the theatre is governed by an artist-chief executive, director-chief executive
seems to begin to annoy organisers and politicians. Are we witnessing the decline of artistic
direction, original stages and repertoires? Is the new role of a chief executive simply a necessity? To what degree does the Polish theatre need chief executives sharing power with other people?
The pandemic imposes a reform of the Polish theatre: what needs to be changed immediately? Does the ensemble continue to be the greatest value of the Polish theatre? Or maybe it will become a burden for the institution in times of crisis?
