Butterfly directed by Marcin Liber is another Wrocław Puppet Theatre's production created by a director associated mainly with adult theatre. This time, he decided to confront child audience. The performance touches on the subject of fears, both children's ones – of loneliness and abandonment and adult's – of loss of freedom and excessive attachment.
Rutka is 5 and is really scared of darkness. Unfortunately, her parents think that children should fall asleep with lights off. Who will help Rutka at night in a dark, terrible room? Perhaps the Fish-Glowworm? A seal from behind the wall? A car, with which she will set off on an adventurous tour around the town? And maybe... she herself will discover a magic power inside her, which will allow her not to be scared anymore?
Butterfly written by Sikorska-Miszczuk is a metaphorical story of growing up in which both children and adults can see themselves. In Marcin Libera and Mirek Kaczmarek's modren staging it becomes a tale of the battle between good and evil, the clash between the light and dark powers, but first and foremost – of faith in man and in interspecies friendship. The world on stage is co-created by unique music and beautiful songs composed by Jerz Igor band.
