It is one of the few experiences shared by all people: death. For centuries, one has tried to tame it, to domesticate it, but also to cheat or outwit it. A conversation can serve as means for it – also a conversation held with the help of works of art. In his production Marcin Liber recalls two classical works of old Polish literature and asks a question about the contemporary way in which they both function, especially in such place as Gniezno: the first capital of Polish kings and Church rulers, a town where St. Adalbert reposes behind the famous doors. How is the mediaeval dance macabre perceived today? Does it evoke dread or can laughter be a reaction to horror too? Is the irony which appears on stage thanks to the music of Nagrobki (Tombstones) band able to help us overcome the fear of the inevitable? This theatrical conversation with Death restoring the memory of old Polish masterpieces cannot do without all these issues.
