Digital Performer in Physical Actor Training – a meeting with Professor Paul Allain (University of Kent), recipient of this year’s Witkacy Prize.
Paul Allain is a researcher of the theatre, Professor, and Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Kent. His interests cover primarily the training of actors, movement of the stage, and creative processes. He devoted one of his monographic works to the person of Włodzimierz Staniewski, and has rendered great services to the worldwide promotion of Jerzy Grotowski’s achievements. He has published a number of seminal books on the Polish director, including the “Grotowski’s Empty Room” collection (2009), the English translation of Ludwik Flaszen’s book “Grotowski & Company”, texts of Zbigniew Cynkutis “Acting with Grotowski: Theatre as a Field for Experiencing” (2015) and, with Grzegorz Ziółkowski, an anthology of testimonies of collaborators of the Laboratorium Theatre “Voices from Within. Grotowski’s Polish Collaborators” (2014). He has worked for years with Polish theatre and academic centres, primarily the Jerzy Grotowski Institute in Wrocław and the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw; he is a member of the Programme Council of the “Polish Theatre Journal”.
