Diploma performance by students of the 4th Year of the Acting Department of the AST in Kraków. “The Rape of Lucretia” inspired by a poem by William Shakespeare investigates the problem of sexual violence against women and the general failure to perceive its sources. To what degree classical texts of our culture approach the suffering heroines with empathy and can still be the source of information about the problems of contemporary women? Perhaps they yet reinforce the patriarchal models and bolster them in the minds of audiences and theatre artists, female and male alike, which must lead to fossilisation in the never-ending wheel of fetishisation and sanctification of violence against women as a canon, the invariable history of the world, and primarily the European culture.
