The search for and creation of utopias is almost as old as humanity itself. They define not only human thinking, but also artistic activity. The invited guests will discuss utopias in the context of modern culture, the visual arts, theatre and philosophy. The inspiration for the panel is Marek and Marcin Chlanda’s project “The School of Utopia”. Is creating a utopia simple escapism motivated by personal frustration with the relentlessly oppressive nature of our world? Or is it a space to let the imagination run wild, unfurling dreams and forging new ideas? Or maybe its function is something completely different: perhaps, paradoxically, it’s a way to empathize with others? Or perhaps utopias are a kind of laboratory that opens a path to the kind of primordial experience that in reality we are constantly losing?
