DURATION

60 min.

The play is presented as part of a special showcase of the Krakow independent theatre scene organized for this year’s edition of the Divine Comedy Theatre Festival. The director, Wiesław Hołdys, takes the oldest writings in Polish and refers to annals from the Middle Ages and other well-known texts from that time period, including the school reading “Dialogus Inter Mortem et Magistrum Polikarpum”. But the piece is not about linguistic games as the title might suggest, or at least not only that. It’s also a theatrical tale about death and the many ghosts that can be sensed within the stage world, which the actors turn into a great Danse Macabre. The status of the performers is unclear—they might be ghosts or vampires haunting the audience. Incomprehensible lines that suggest a lecture transform gradually into popular quotes, and the melody of the spoken language defines the tempo of subsequent scenes.
