Directed by Remigiusz Brzyk, the diploma performance by graduates of the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Kraków is based on an acclaimed text by Paweł Demirski. The play is inspired by the cult 60s TV series Czterej pancerni i pies. But unlike in that show there is no glorification and mythologizing of World War II; the narration here, on the contrary, is all about deconstructing and debunking. The play voices a dissent against tales of national martyrdom: instead of presenting representations of Polish heroism, it offers a parody of them. Demirski, along with the young actors, conducts a sharp critique of the aesthetics and ideologies behind war movies and computer games, which put forth clichés about violence, trivializing it. At the same time, the mechanisms of establishing and recording history are revealed, drawing attention to their selective and arbitrary nature.
