This diploma performance by the students of the Wrocław branch of the Ludwik Solski State Drama School, directed by Monika Strzępka, is an adaptation of the canonical Polish stage play The Wedding by Stanisław Wyspiański. The young actors, following the author’s lead, crack open a dense network of national myths and stereotypes, which, as it turns out, although it’s been over a hundred years since the play premiered, are still painfully relevant and visible in the current Polish reality. Strzępka stages the iconic, titular wedding reflecting not only on the resonance of the specific social diagnosis given by Wyspiański, but also, playing a variety of ironic and witty games with the original text, creating new meanings and significance.
