Directed by Marcin Libera, the diploma performance by the students graduating from the Acting Department of the Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Krakow is an attempt to analyze the phenomenon of school shootings. Taking, for the most part, the perspective of a child, the young actors try to understand the workings in the minds of the shooters as well as those responsible for portraying these massacres in the media. The structure of the scenes is modeled on TV news aesthetics and reveals the trajectory of thoughts running through the minds of the criminals. The narration is carried out on two levels, balancing documentary, brutal and poetic representation, and metaphysical interpolations, which results in a complex, ambivalent depiction of a cultural phenomenon that has killed hundreds of students. At the same time, the play revisits common opinions on allegedly innocent and naïve childhood, and steers clear of cheap moralizing or proposing simple explanations of the causes and motivations behind the school shootings.
