INFERNO: Catherine the Great
On the third day of the festival, we’d like to invite everyone to the first meeting from the cycle Something’s Cooking Backstage that takes place at the Festival Center at noon. Paweł Świątek and Mateusz Pakuła, together with their actor,s reveal some juicy details behind the Divine Comedy and Łaźnia Nowa Theatre coproduction, Sorrows of the Tropics. They also have promised to share stories about their favorite flavors and meals as well as prepare a special “backpacker snack set”, under the supervision of Chef Bartłomiej of twojkucharz.pl website; the discussion is led by Agata Dabek. The audience has a chance to watch two Polish Contest performances, at 5 PM we show The Bat directed by Kornel Mundruczò from TR Warsaw and at 8 PM Maja Kleczewska’s A Winter’s Journey – a coproduction of Polski Theatre in Bydgoszcz and Powszechny Theatre in Łódź. The first offers a lyrical and thorough analysis of euthanasia, with all of its moral and ethical ambiguity. The second one, based on Elfriede Jelinek’s play, in a fierce and uncompromised way struggles with social indifference and cultural norms that imprison us in a dense web of conventions. There are Datntesque Scenes discussions held after both of the shows. Joanna Derkaczew talks to The Bat artistic team and Łukasz Drewniak facilitates a discussion with A Winter’s Journey crew. Come and join us!
