Opening Gala - "The Plastics" by Grzegorz Wiśniewski

31 October 2016

Every year, the Divine Comedy Festival is a co-producer of premiere shows. This year, besides Eva Rysova’s - „Whale The Globe”, the festival co-produces Grzegorz Wisniewski’s „The Plastics” together with the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Kraków.

The Polish premiere of the latest play by distinguished German author Marius von Mayenburg was prepared exclusively for the opening of the Divine Comedy International Theatre Festival. This version, staged by acclaimed director Grzegorz Wiśniewski, is a kind of satire on modern middle class people convinced of their uniqueness as artists. The events revolve around a bourgeois family—a confused doctor and his wife who works as an assistant to an extravagant artist, but is also obsessed with perfection. Their teenage son is going through a rough and rebellious puberty. The relatively stable family situation changes drastically when they decide to hire a new maid, Jessica, who, like Gombrowicz's Ivona, turns their world upside down. She becomes a vehicle for identity transformation for each of the characters, while also revealing their character defects, weaknesses, and fears.

The show will premiere on December the 8th, during the offcial opening ceremony.
