When they come to burn your home

13 October 2014

Polish theatre artists have been invited to interpret a line taken from a famous poem by Władysław Broniewski. Maja Kleczewska, Radek Rychcik, Yana Ross and Michał Kotański will tell stories of modern fears and dangers that are ever-present in the Polish political discourse. The starting slogan only seemingly suggests an external threat but in fact is supposed to initiate reflection upon fears that are deeply rooted in us. An enemy turns out to be an internalized being that destroys us from within. Can we function in the times of peace and stabilization? Maybe we establish enemies so as to build our identities through opposition and rebellion against them? Why are we only able to exist in the times of war? Maybe we just organically need an enemy?
